Historic walks in the Waveney and Blyth Valley and further afield. Our Walks combine historical places of interest with an easy walk, usually between 1 and 3 miles. Sorry but we are unable to accept dogs on our walks.

We have to limit numbers so that members can hear the walk leader as the walk progresses. If you wish to join Group 3 please use the bird link (to the right) to register your interest.

All walks are scheduled for the second Wednesday morning of the month, April to October, between 11am โ€“ 1 pm.ย  Walks are usually led by a knowledgeable guide who has researched a place of particular historical interest.ย  Suggestions of future walks from within the group are welcomed.ย  Some walks led by professional guides will require a payment of up to ยฃ5 pp, but otherwise they are free.ย  We often end up with (optional) refreshments, if available.

Here is the programme for 2026.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NEW TIMING FOR WALKS WILL BE 11.00 TO 13.00 (with one exception)

There will be an optional opportunity for lunch at each venue.

As we have a long membership list, my system is to send out details of the next walk about two weeks in advance and take the first 20 names to respond.  Later replies are put on a waiting list, but it is rare for anyone to be missed out, as there are often last-minute cancellations.

Although I may not come on all the walks (dodgy feet) I will cherry-pick the ones I am able to do, and I look forward to seeing faces both new and old on several walks this summer.

Some churches request a small donation (not more than ยฃ5 per head) but otherwise no expense is required, apart from buying a cup of tea!  Many walks are led by an expert guide or historian.

New members welcome, but only if you are a member of U3A, and on email.  Notification of forthcoming walks is sent out approximately two weeks in advance, via email only

14 of us enjoyed the walk today, led by Lisa and Sue, with plenty of facts, dates and architecture. Several of us stayed for refreshment at the Angel afterwards.
The walk lasted 1.5 hours, which was just right and certainly long enough in the heat.

These are the photos from the 'Wing And A Prayer' walk to the new glass installation at the ruined chapel at Eastbridge, south of Dunwich, led by Arabella Marshall, the artist.  A highly successful outing,
