Beccles History pre 1900

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE FROM 2nd MONDAY TO 3rd WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH. (There will be no meeting on Christmas Eve)

This group covers the history of Beccles from the Domesday Book up until 1900

Please contact the convenor for more information - you can use the Bird to send a message

This group will try to uncover what Beccles was like and how it has developed through the centuries.

This we shall do by finding out

  • who lived in Beccles
  • what they did
  • what they owned
  • whether they were affected by national events e.g., the black death, religious upheavals (e.g. the Lollards), famine and the peasants revolt

We shall see what we can discover from both published articles and original documents. Please bring along anything you want to discuss.
