Scottish Country Dancing

Next session is Tuesday 12th May in Blyburgate Hall.

Time: 1.30-2.30 (improvers) or 3.00-4.00pm (beginners).

There is no dancing in April.

Scottish Country Dancing is an ideal way to enjoy social dancing for fun and friendship. It can help boost your fitness, health and wellbeing. A fantastic way to make new friends. Just drop me (Convenor Jo) an email and I'll be in touch.

We'd love to share our enthusiasm, developing knowledge and dance skills. We're an easy-going and supportive group. It doesn't matter if you think you have two left feet.

What we do: We start with a gentle warm up and finish with cool down stretches. The first dance is a 'meet and greet' round the room dance for two couple sets. The last dance is a circular dance, our favourite is Circassian Circle.

We dance to recorded music. All dances can be walked or danced. It's ok to take time out to chill out and watch.

Refreshments: tea/coffee and biscuits at 2.30.

Summer is nearly here. A great time join a new activity group. So why not dust off your dancing shoes, reconnect with your inner dancing self and enjoy the invigorating sound of Scottish dance music. You don't need to bring a partner, or to have had any experience of country dancing. We have places for a few more dancers.

What to wear: flat soft shoes are best, such as plimsolls, jazz dance shoes, or lightweight pumps.

Group History: We started in April 2024 and gave our first demonstration during the Beccles u3a 10th Anniversary event. In 2024 we also ran a ceilidh at the Waveney Centre. In 2025 we welcomed the National U3A Adviser for Scottish Country dancing for a flying visit and danced to live music by the u3a Folk Band during our festive session in December.

In January 2026 we held our first Burns Night celebration. It was a collaborative event together with four other u3a activity groups. We demonstrated the Beccles Fishing Reel. A wonderful event with lots of fun and laughter. Read the full story here.
